Our young people brought their energy and culture to Edinburgh’s Festival Carnival on 13th July 2025, performing Afrobeat dances and celebrating diversity, confidence, and connection through a joyful day they’ll never forget.
Touch of Love Young Achievers Perform at the Edinburgh Festival Carnival
The excitement began long before the journey. Our young people had been counting down the days to the Edinburgh Festival Carnival, chatting about it during youth club sessions, practicing their moves, and imagining what it would be like to perform in such a big event. When the day finally came, their energy filled the bus from Aberdeen all the way to Edinburgh.
Arriving at the festival, the streets were alive with colour, drums, costumes, and movement from every direction. Our young people joined hundreds of performers and organisations coming together to celebrate culture and creativity.
The highlight of the day was seeing our two groups - the 12-15s and the 16+ Young Achievers - take to the stage to perform their Afrobeat dances. Each group brought its own style and confidence, and the crowd responded with cheers and applause. Their pride was visible in every step and every smile.
For many young people, this was a new experience and a big step in confidence. Some shared how being part of the carnival made them feel connected, included, and proud of their heritage. Others said it opened their eyes to how culture can unite people from different backgrounds.
Since returning, the young people have continued to talk about the trip, about the people they met, the music they heard, and the feeling of being part of something so full of life. Parents have also shared how much the experience meant to their children, especially for those who had never been to a festival like this before.
At Touch of Love, we’re proud to see our young people embracing opportunities like this. The Edinburgh Festival Carnival gave them a platform to express themselves, learn from others, and celebrate who they are. It was a day full of rhythm, laughter, and connection - and one they’ll remember for a long time.
